the most extensive option and is designed to create a
high-powered strategic plan for forward thinking
contractors. This option gathers together all the key
company employees to develop a strategic plan that
is both comprehensive and defensible from competitors.
This new program consists of a two-day seminar/workshop.
While some companies manage to complete the process in
less than two days, it's important to allow sufficient
time for the participants to adequately discuss the issues
in order to insure broad buy-in to the final plan. Therefore,
it's better to allocate sufficient time and not place
arbitrary time restraints on the process. This is not
the place to cut corners, but it's equally important
not to allow the process to bog down in trivial discussions.
For this reason, an outside facilitator is suggested.
The seminar portion explains why you need a strategic
plan and its fundamental concepts. The workshop aspect
of the program walks attendees through the process of
actually creating their strategic plan. During
the program the company will develop its mission and
vision statements, its objectives, its strategies and
establish its priorities. While this process is extensive
it is presented in an easy to follow format.
The Program
Each participant will receive a copy of the book Strategic
Planning for Contractors (a $149 retail
value). This book will provide a valuable resource
as the company moves forward in the strategic
planning process. Further, each attendee receives
a seminar workbook that contains copies of all the
presentation slides as well as additional worksheet
for all the exercises.
The seminar and workshop portions of the program will
be interwoven. The seminar will provide sufficient information
and necessary background on the strategic planning process.
But the heart of the program is in the workshop where
the company actual goes through the process of creating
its strategic plan . Garrison Associates will
act as the facilitator in this process. It's essential
that your companies develops its strategic plan and not
have a consultant develop it, because the later will
create little buy-in or added value. Instead, Garrison
Associates facilitates the process of you developing
your unique strategic plan. There is a big difference
between facilitating the process and imposing the strategic
decisions.
The key to creating a dynamic strategic plan is
the establishment of 90-day action priorities. As part
of this program the company will establish a process
to monitor that priorities during the 90-day period.
However, at the end of each 90-day period, the company
should step back and review the progress of the entire strategic
plan and confirm its direction. This step should
be a separate meeting dedicated to this single purpose.
This process should take about a half-day, but some of
the initial meetings may take as long as a full day as
you learn the process. The benefit of an outside facilitator
is that this process can be speeded up, especially during
the first few meetings.
